2010-05-05: POSITION: FINANCIAL PLANNER / PARAPLANNER Are you looking for:  A small, but growing firm?  A thorough, comprehensive approach?  Experienced planners as mentors?  Immediate access to client meetings?  A focus on planning, not sales? Then, please consider us. Our Company: We are a successful, independent fee-only firm offering an entry-level planning position. We offer our clients investment, tax, and retirement planning advice. We are working to expand our client services and to increase the comprehensiveness of our planning. We tend to develop deep, long-lasting client relationships which often continue into second and third generations. Clients find us through referral. Our owner/principal, David, has 25 years of experience. Dustin and Michelle, both CFP?s, have ?come up through the ranks? and work directly with clients. Currently in a growth phase, we will gradually add Certified Financial Planners?, Paraplanners, and administrative support staff over the next several years. We wish to grow, but as a small office, company culture is important to us. We seek controlled growth while maintaining exceptional service and a close working environment. Nicole, our Operations Manager, and Tiffany, our Client Services Manager, complete the team. We serve about 120 clients and manage approximately $85 million. Our client relationships are consultative, rather than transactional. The intake process involves much data gathering and a number of exploratory meetings. We meet on a semi-annual basis thereafter. We nurture strong relationships. It is important to understand our investment philosophy. We are not stock pickers. We do not forecast, time, analyze, or chart. There is nothing sexy here. We employ mutual funds to create very broad diversification across distinct asset classes. Not exactly index funds, but definitely not ?active? investing. We are of the ?passive? persuasion, based upon academic work through the University of Chicago. See www.dfaus.com for more information. Position Details: The ideal candidate is a CFP? with 2-4 years? experience. Perhaps someone stuck in the commission-driven investment or insurance transactional world. Someone looking to do real client-centered financial planning. We will also consider the candidate who has completed, or will soon complete a Bachelor?s Degree in Financial Planning and will be eligible to sit for the CFP? Exam. And, lastly, we will consider that special person in a related field still searching for the right career niche. However, you must be bright, willing to engage in much study, and particularly diligent when addressing the five areas of inquiry listed towards the end of this posting. The new hire will work in a support position to our three planners for the first few years. This applies as well to an experienced candidate. We are not independent operators here. We share the same vision of in-depth planning, as well as the same investment philosophy. Our goal is to prepare you to become an effective planner within our system. This entails training in all areas of the company, from the ground up, so that you thoroughly understand our roles and processes. You will learn many of the tasks in the client services and operations areas. You will sit with all planners as they meet with clients and receive close mentoring as you develop skills. Potential Duties:  Review tax returns and project future taxes  Determine the feasibility of a Roth IRA conversion  Organize, review, and generally make sense of a hodgepodge of client account statements & documents  Review estate planning documents - identify problem areas  Review beneficiary designations - identify problem areas  Prepare a side-by-side comparison of a new client?s current investments vs. proposed changes  Create a diagram to help the client understand all accounts, how money might flow in or out  Create a chart for a business owner comparing a 401(k) vs. a Simple IRA  Create agenda for upcoming meeting  Work with other staff to ensure all paperwork and reports are ready for meetings  Propose investment changes to rebalance a portfolio  Use our portfolio management software (Portfolio Center)  Use our client information tracking software (Junxure)  Prepare a retirement analysis using our software (Money Guide Pro)  Attend client meetings. Dictate a meeting summary: a portion is sent to the client, a portion is our internal record  Research stuff that an old-timer might have forgotten (or never learned) At some point, primary responsibility for certain, less complex, client relationships will transfer to the new planner. We apply a team approach with more complex clients, where two planners meet and work with one client. We are not a sales organization. We earn fees, not commissions. This is a salaried position. Once the new planner assumes primary responsibility for specific clients, then additional incentives are available. Please send us:  Your Resume  Salary History We conduct a thorough hiring process. It is critical for us to know what you seek in a position, as well as what concerns you might have. Please address the following issues in a brief note to accompany the requested documents: 1. Describe the person behind the formal resume. 2. Describe your college experience and activities. 3. Which features of a financial planning firm are important to you? 4. What attracts you to this position? 5. How do you see your career evolving over the next 3 to 5 years? (Please note: Your resume will not be considered if you neglect to address each of the five issues above.) Contact person: Tiffany Domenici Pathways Advisory Group, Inc. 684 W.
