CFP Board’s Code of Ethics Program
Beacon Hill Financial Educators
Speaker: Curt Weil, CFP®

Beacon Hill Financial Educators is pleased to present the CFP Board Ethics Workshop to CFP Board certificants. The goal is to help you understand the minimum standards of ethical and professional conduct that are expected of all CFP Board certificants, in accordance with the directives established by CFP Board. The value of the CFP® marks is directly tied to the Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility and CFP Board’s enforcement of this Code. CFP Board has provided CFP® certificants with very clear guidelines to follow in their practices and their professions to ensure that they uphold the high ethical standards incorporated into the Code of Ethics and the Financial Planning Practice Standards.

Learning Objectives:
•    Define elements of the fiduciary standard.
•    Determine when the fiduciary standard applies in a variety of financial planning contexts and scenarios.
•    Determine if a CFP® practitioner is providing financial planning services or material elements of financial planning services
•    Explain CFP Board’s compensation disclosure requirements to clients and prospective clients.
•    Communicate any potential conflicts of interest to a client at the initiation of client engagement.

Speaker: Curt Weil, CFP®

Curt Weil earned his CFP designation in 1986 while a broker with E.F. Hutton. After 3 years with the firm he left in 1989 to start his own, fee-only, wealth management firm which eventually grew to serve some 180 families and more than 200 million in AUM, with a partner and five employees. Mr. Weil sold his firm to his partner in 2012 and now does mostly pro-bono planning. In the past, he served as president of the Silicon Valley FPA (which just honored him with a 40-year pin,) as a member of the board of the national FPA and more recently, completed two terms as a trustee of the Foundation for Financial Planning. In the new year he takes office as the president of the FPA of California, an organization that represents all chapters in Sacramento. He continues to serve on the board of the Pacific Skyline Council of the Boy Scouts and has been a frequent presenter of ethics training to planners and others. Mr. Weil is a licensed pilot, a lover of history, classical guitar, good whiskey and his wife, Margaret; they live in Palo Alto with their three cats.
